A Patch of Walt’s Grass

The grass of the cemetery lies flat
waiting for autumn’s leaves to fall
or winter’s shadow to melt.
The granite stones lie waiting for ghosts and idlers.
Eventually they will be gone from here too,
many generations from now
when baseball isn’t played any longer
and none of this is a memory.
ur names will not be passed on,
but this grass, it’ll grow,
it’ll cover us all.
